The meeting of the government and opposition commission set up to appoint the members of the electoral commission ended without success.
The meeting of the commission for the nomination of the members of the electoral commission could not lead to any conclusion. The next meeting of the parliamentary committee will take place on December 8.
According to sources, the opposition believes that the appointment of members should be decided on merits. We are not prepared for a single member. The decision should be based on merit, while the government believes that the opposition should consult.
Government member Shirin Mazari said the opposition believes that because of the Lahore elections they should have time to consult each other, whoever is on merit will be nominated as a member.
Khawaja Saad Rafique, a member of the PML-N, said they would appoint those members on the basis of merit that they can withstand pressure. The search for the best options is underway.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, opposition member Shahida Akhtar Ali said the government was incompetent and incompetent.
He said that even before that it had taken a whole year for the appointment of members and the same situation was still being observed. The government is using delaying tactics on the issue of naming members.
