Protesters shoot protesters in Sudan

Thousands of people protested against Sudan's military government, and at least three people were killed and dozens injured when government forces opened fire on them.

According to the Reuters news agency, Khartoum security forces used tear gas to disperse protesters as they planned to sit in the city center.

At least three people were killed and 38 others injured when security forces opened fire in the capital Khartoum on Friday, the Sudanese central medical committee said.

Eyewitnesses in Amdarman said they heard gunshots and saw the bloody wounded being taken to hospital.

However, Sudanese police have denied reports of shooting at protesters, claiming that a police officer was shot and injured.

The protests are the biggest challenge for outgoing General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, who ousted Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk on Monday and overthrew his government.

The protesters waved Sudanese flags and chanted "We do not accept the military government" and "This is our country and our government is the people."

Protests against the military regime also took place in Shigar cities across the country, while thousands protested in Khartoum.

On the other hand, the United States and the World Bank have stopped aid to Sudan, which threatens to exacerbate Sudan's economic crisis as a third of the country's population needs immediate help.

While Western countries have refused to accept military rule, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have emphasized the need for stability in the country.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said Saudi Arabia wants all parties in Sudan to hold talks and chart the way forward.

Meanwhile, cabinet members from the overthrown government backed the protesters' protest and addressed the military, saying the military should have no illusions that we will support them in power.

Large numbers of soldiers were deployed in the center of Khartoum, while the roads leading to the airport and the Ministry of Defense office were closed.

Unlike previous protests, this time people took photos of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk and he is equally popular with the population despite the economic crisis.

Recall that a few days ago, the army chief dissolved Burhan's interim government and arrested several government officials and political leaders, including the Prime Minister, for sedition.

This decision was condemned by the United States and the Western countries which, under pressure from the Western countries, released Abdullah Hamdukki and allowed him to return home.
