The former Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Surinder Kumar Sinha, was sentenced to 11 years in absentia for 50 million corruption offenses.

The former Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Srinivasa Kumar Sinha, ruled in 2017 that parliament could not remove judges, a move hailed by lawyers as a protection of judicial independence.
He left Bangladesh in late 2017 after extensive corruption and claimed that he was forced to separate after a historic decision. He settled in North America, where he allegedly sought political asylum.

The government of Bangladesh has filed a complaint against him for corruption. Dhaka Special Court Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam on Tuesday sentenced Sinha to seven years in prison for money laundering and four years for breach of trust. Dissipated
