Voting continues for vacant Senate seat
Elections are being held today for the vacant Senate seat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Voting for the election takes place in the old Provincial Assembly Hall which began at 9 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m.


The PTI gave Shaukat Tareen the ticket by forcing Ayub Afridi to resign from the Senate seat while Shaukat Amirzada of the ANP, Muhammad Saeed of PPP and Zahir Shah of JUI-F appear before the financial adviser.

In the 145-member provincial assembly, the PTI has 94 members, JUI-F 15 members, ANP 12, PML-N 7, PPP 5, Balochistan Awami Party 4, Jamaat-e-Islami 3 and the candidate PML-Q. While the number of independent members is 4.

To be elected senator, a candidate would need more than 50% of the votes of the 145 members.
