ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided to open the sealed envelope in the presence of the Attorney General for contempt of court following the news of Rana Shamim's affidavit. In this regard, a case of contempt of court was heard.

During the hearing, a sealed envelope, delivered by courier from London, was presented to the court.

In this regard, the Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that the London post is sealed, you can open it now if you want.
The court questioned Rana Shamim's lawyer whether his clients believed that what was printed in the newspaper was consistent with their affidavit, and the court was not at all afraid of criticism, three years after granting an affidavit on the credibility of a sworn declaration. the impression that the High Court is compromised is not a routine matter, can we point the finger at a judge in this court? The court will not ask the journalist for the source.

Judge Athar Minallah said that Rana Shamim also gave the impression that the lien document may have been revealed by a notary public. So has action been taken against him in the UK?

The court said that if freedom of expression is against the public interest, the situation is different. You cannot make an affidavit or use the journal for any purpose. This court has always supported freedom of expression. The problem is that the judges cannot hold press conferences, they cannot issue press releases.

The court has decided to seal Rana Shamim's affidavit until the next hearing and it will be opened in the presence of the Attorney General at the next hearing.

The court said that we will only move forward after considering article 19 of the Constitution, where the issue of fundamental rights arises, freedom of expression comes to an end, breaking people's trust in this court is related to basic human rights . We have not decided whether to charge the accused or not. This is an open investigation and we have been asked questions. Let us know that if there is no contempt of court, we will close the case. Hiding is the real thing.

The court then adjourned the case until December 28.
