Pakistan's Former MQM Senator Mian Atiq Arrested By Lahore Police

Former Senator Mian Atiq was arrested in Lahore in the case from Ganj Mandi Police Station in Rawalpindi. A case against Mian Atiq and his associates was filed in June 2021 at the request of the district administration.

Mian Atiq is accused of presenting false property documents in the case of the Ganj Mandi Police Station in Rawalpindi. The former senator is a fugitive in the case.

Lahore Police Qila Gujar Singh arrested Mian Atiq from Lahore and handed him over to Rawalpindi Police.

Police officials said the case would be resolved out of court as part of a merits investigation. The Rawalpindi Police believe in the rule of law and merit, to be guaranteed in all cases.

It is worth recalling that in 2017, MQM Pakistan had its rank-and-file membership canceled for violating the party's code of conduct during the vote on the Electoral Reform Bill.
